Our visit to the castle was the highlight of this stopover and it didn't dissapoint.

Before we start, yesterday was our washing day. It was advertised that there was a washing machine in the apartment, on arrival we couldn't find it so I messaged the owner and he stated it was in the basement. We went to the back of the apartment to an old wooden door, pulled it open to a dark stairwell, the lights only came on half way down:

At the bottom this was the "room" in front:

...and to the right was a passageway:

...at the end was the washing machine:

,,,the "room" next door:

On our arrival, yesterday we opened the front door to the building to see...

..the place was a wreck.. what were we walking into? We entered our apartment with trepidation but were pleasantly surprised as described yesterday.

...on the brighter side, we now have a full set of clean clothes 😊👍.

Colditz Castle, WWII prison for Alied Officers and dating back to the 15th century, what a great place with ah harrowing and daunting history of murder, genocide and the first use of an horrendous form of euthanasia:

Getting to the castle meant that we had to climb some very steep steps (and they were large steps) 😜:

The museum documented the many escapes and attempts in really good detail having a good English translation at every point. Some photos of the castle:

After visiting the museum we had our own walking tour of Colditz, here are some photos:

Not sure what we are doing for our meal tonight as most (if not all) of the main restaurants seem to be closed on a Tuesday but, at least, we can walk to Lidl to buy something if necessary ðŸĪĢðŸĪŠ.
