Just to let the room service staff know it was Sand's birthday 😂:

We found that Prague was quite different to what we expected in that English is the predominant language, you don't need money as credit cards are accepted everywhere, the people are really friendly and the restaurant staff are both friendly and accommodating - nothing like what I read before our trip.

The city is really old in that the castle dates back to the early 1300s, the cobbled streets give it character (until you drive over them !! 😆) and there are bars and restaurants in alleyways and large squares, plenty to choose from, from fast food to Michelin.

We only have one day here in Prague so we decided to do the bus tour. We took loads of photos, here are a few:

We had lunch in what is marketed to be the largest Hard Rock Cafe in europe:

They had a Chech specials menu and we chose the chicken baguette to share:

After lunch our tour continued, this time by walking through the back streets; here are some more photos:

There are shopping opportunities:

...and there is more than one way to get around:

What a great city.

You may remember from yesterday's post we have a restaurant booking for our evening meal.

We both ate traditional Chech food, Sand ate a pork chop with mash potato and mushroom seasoning, the seasoning was quite poor. I had the pork knuckle, that was great, full of meat and no fat. I could only eat abour 2/3 of the dish:

This is what i left as there was too much to eat !!!

While we were eating, across the road, at our hotel, a stream of emergency services arrived and evacuated and closed the hotel which occurred at about 1845h. We watched the drama unfold over the next 2 hours. When the Police, fire and ambulance left I went across and established there had been a fire on one of the floors. We were told to wait in their sister hotel a short walk away which we did and about 30 minutes later we were allowed back in. Our floor was clear, we don't know what floor the fire was on. We arrived in our room close to 2100h.

Oh well, yet another experience.

We move on tomorrow...
