Today was all about the ride and not using the sat nav. We wanted to "hug" the Rhine from Stuttgart to Bonn. The journey was only 120 (ish) miles but was nearly 3 hours in the saddle due to the road, the B42. What a road, it is the best ride of our holiday, riding along the Rhine valley through "chocolate box" towns, riding quite slowly to see the sights, and we saw in excess of 20 castles in various states, some of which were "fairy tale" castles some were in various states of disrepair. We had a magnificent ride. The weather looked worse than it was, if we hadn't had our lunch stop we would have been caught in the rain ahead of us.

We stopped for lunch in Kamp-Barnhofen, a small town on the side of the Rhine, this is the view from our table:

We had a light lunch which was delightful:

...you can see the Rhine in the background.

We arrived at our hotel in Bonn at 1450h only to find there were no parking spaces available, so we booked in, unpacked and then rode to an underground car park for safety. We were lucky to check in so easily at all!! The reception closed at 1530h today due to lack of staff, The keys were left in a lock box outside and a telephone number on a notice - but we can't read German, so we would have been stuffed !!! Anyway alls well that ends well. We checked in and all was OK.

After settling down, getting changed we went for a cold beer nearby. The service was not good at all. We had our evening meal in an oriental restaurant, the food was delightful but the service was, again, not good at all. Bonn is the worse place in Germany for service that we have experienced so far.

We have a day in Bonn tomorrow.
